Free to choose
America is a nation of laws, not a theocracy. If we were a country based on the Bible, then we would be stoning adulterers, and idolators. And wouldn’t that be entertaining.
Being a man, I have little right to an opinion on abortion, but I do believe a person’s body belongs to them, to do what they wish with it, and this means to have a child or not.
I did take personal responsibility and got a vasectomy at 26, and it’s my belief, that most men should get “fixed.” But the issue is freedom. We all get to choose our own lives. America the free, remember ?

We can’t keep our keiki in masks forever
The front page article printed in Thursday’s edition of West Hawaii Today was heartbreaking to me. The article stated that the DOE is still deciding whether to mask children in the fall. If COVID has taught us anything in these last two years, it should be that it is not going away. Sadly, there seems to always be another variant right around the corner. So does the DOE plan to keep our kids in masks forever? When Hawaii is now the only state still requiring masks in schools, it makes absolutely no sense to me that they are thinking about continuing this mandate. Especially when the rest of the population no longer has to wear them.

We must pass the Protecting our Democracy Act
Republicans and Democrats should be able to agree that no president, regardless of party, should be able to obstruct and undermine the will of the American people or exploit weaknesses in our political system for personal gain.
That’s where the Protecting Our Democracy Act comes in. If passed, it would prevent future abuse of presidential power and corruption, increase transparency, and ensure presidents of either party can be held accountable.
Strengthening the guardrails on presidential power is just common sense. If the average person used their office for personal gain, they’d go to jail. If the average person could pardon themselves, there would be no rule of law.
No president should be above the law. That’s why I’m urging Congress to pass the Protecting Our Democracy Act. We must prevent future presidents of any party from abusing the power of their office.
